Wire Braces
Misaligned teeth can be fixed easily and early, with orthodontics. Fixing them in your teenage years makes it easy for you to have a straight smile for the rest of your life. Wire braces, also known as traditional metal braces, are a time-tested method for correcting misaligned teeth and bite issues. They consist of metal brackets attached to your teeth and connected by a series of wires and elastic bands. These components work together to gradually shift your teeth into their optimal positions. Why Fix Your Crowded and Crooked Teeth?
Straightening your teeth with wire braces in Kelowna can have a significant impact on your health. Here are some of the benefits:
A great smile is one of the first features people notice about you, and braces help you get that smile.
Our Orthodontic Options
We believe that straight teeth are essential to a healthy smile, which is why we offer so many different orthodontic options and options that help your teeth appear straight.
There are three main ways we can straighten your teeth:
- Straightening your teeth with Invisalign Clear Braces or Conventional Braces. Both work by putting pressure on teeth over a period of time to actually move where the teeth sit in your jawbone.
- By restoring and reshaping them with crowns, veneers, and fillings
- A combination of both methods. This is called the Smile Design approach. It makes the most sense if the teeth are both out of position and worn or poorly shaped.
Why Choose Wire Braces Over Invisalign Clear Braces?
There are several reasons why you might want to consider wire braces over an Invisalign treatment. Wire braces are:
- Less expensive
- Able to handle harder cases
- Less reliant on client participation
- Customized to your teeth
- Proven to be effective

What to Expect during the Wire Braces Treatment Process
Initial Consultation
We’ll begin with a thorough examination and discuss your treatment goals. X-rays, photos, and impressions of your teeth may be taken to create a customized treatment plan.
Braces Placement
On the day of your braces placement, we’ll clean your teeth and bond the brackets to your teeth. The wire will be threaded through the brackets and secured with elastic bands.
Regular Adjustments
You’ll need to visit us every 4-8 weeks for adjustments. During these visits, we’ll tighten the wire and make any necessary modifications to keep your treatment on track.
Oral Care
Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial while wearing braces. We’ll provide guidelines on brushing, flossing, and caring for your braces to ensure your teeth and gums remain healthy throughout your treatment.
The duration of treatment with wire braces varies depending on the complexity of your case and your specific orthodontic needs. On average, treatment lasts between 18 to 24 months.
Are wire braces painful?
You may experience some discomfort or soreness, especially after your braces are first placed or adjusted. This is normal and usually subsides within a few days. Our dentist might recommend over-the-counter pain relievers or orthodontic wax to help alleviate any discomfort.
Can I eat normally with wire braces?
You can eat most foods with wire braces, but you should avoid sticky, hard, and chewy foods that can damage the brackets or wires. Foods like popcorn, nuts, and candy can cause your brackets to pop off or your wire to get loose, which can cause pain or irritation.
We will give you a list of recommended foods and foods to avoid when you begin your braces treatment in Kelowna, BC.
After Treatment: What Comes Next?
Once your wire braces are removed, you’ll need to wear a retainer to keep your teeth in their new positions. Most often, this retainer is worn during the night only so you can share your smile when it matters. We’ll discuss your retainer options and provide instructions on how to wear and care for it to maintain your beautiful smile.
