What Is More Valuable Than A Diamond?

Kelowna cosmetic dentistry

We begin this post from Love Your Smile in Kelowna with a quote from classic literature: “Every tooth in a man’s head is more valuable than a diamond.”

When Miguel de Cervantes wrote that four hundred years ago, there was no widely accepted way to replace lost teeth. We are fortunate to live at a time where there is: dental implants.

A dental implant is a titanium post anchored to the jaw bone. One implant can support one artificial tooth, while several can support a bridge or a full dental arch.

Because the titanium post actually fuses with the bone, it becomes a rock-solid base for the replacement teeth it supports.

With a dental implant, you can talk, chew, and brush like normal. Eat that steak! Laugh out loud! Sing at the top of your lungs!

Dental implants from Love Your Smile in Kelowna improve your smile, and can even improve your life! Patients from Mission, V1Y 8B7, and V1W 3C6 come to us for this and other restorative dentistry procedures. Contact us today!

Tooth Implant Placement: Before, During, After

tooth implants Kelowna

Dental implants are rapidly becoming the tooth replacement option of choice. Millions of Americans have chosen implants, like those available at Love Your Smile in Kelowna. Once the decision is made, patients usually want to know what’s involved every step of the way.

Before the Procedure

It begins with a consultation and preliminary exam. We’ll take X-rays of your teeth and jaw to make sure you have enough healthy bone structure. If you don’t, we may recommend bone grafting.

We’ll also inspect your gums for any signs of gum disease. Healthy gums are essential for a successful implant.

During Implant Surgery

After administering anesthesia, a guide hole is drilled into your jaw and a titanium post – which is the actual implant – is screwed in. The process takes about an hour.

Aftercare

Some patients experience minor pain and swelling. Over-the-counter pain relievers are usually enough to control it. An icepack can help, too. Most people can resume their usual activities the same day.

At Love Your Smile in Kelowna we have placed dental implants in people from Mission, V1Y 8B7, and V1W 3C6, who also come to us for our complete general and cosmetic dentistry. Contact us today!

How Do Implant Dentures Work?

implant dentures Kelowna

Dental implants are an ideal tooth restoration. They can restore anywhere from one to all missing teeth. And they are available at Love Your Smile in Kelowna!

A dental implant is a titanium post that is inserted into the patient’s jaw. What makes implants so unique is that they actually fuse with the bone, to provide a solid support for one or more artificial teeth.

The implant acts as a replacement tooth root. Because of this, they help to prevent bone recession and, in turn, support the patient’s facial structure.

What Are Implant Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures are attached to the titanium posts. It takes from four to six to support a full dental arch.

The titanium posts are usually inserted into the front part of the patient’s mouth. That’s because there tends to be greater bone mass there. It’s essential to have enough healthy bone to support the post. Even if the patient doesn’t, though, bone grafting can promote new growth, enough to support the implant.

There Is Hope For Denture Wearers

Mission tooth implantsThe condition of your teeth has a big impact on your quality of life. Denture wearers understand this all too well. Now there is a better option than conventional dentures: implant-supported dentures from Love Your Smile in Kelowna BC.

Conventional dentures rest against the gums. They can irritate soft tissue, and make breathing, eating, tasting food, talking, and laughing difficult. Imagine dentures that are attached to the jaw, almost like natural teeth. Sound too good to be true?

Implant-supported dentures are already worn successfully by hundreds of thousands of people. A dental implant is a titanium post that is placed in the jaw, where it fuses with the bone. One implant can support a single artificial tooth, while multiple posts can support a full dental arch.

Implant-supported dentures have a number of advantages over traditional dentures:

  • More stable. Because they are attached to titanium posts that have fused with the jaw, people have much greater biting and chewing power.
  • Natural in appearance. They look more like natural teeth, and are easier to care for.
  • Built to last. Because they are physically attached to the jaw, implants are long-lasting.
  • Prevent bone recession. With traditional dentures, the bone around missing tooth roots begin to deteriorate. The titanium posts replace some of the tooth roots, so the bone is preserved.

Implant-supported dentures can transform your life. Love Your Smile in Kelowna BC has placed them in patients from Mission, V1Y 8B7, and V1W 3C6, who also come to us for general dentistry. Call our office to schedule an appointment today!

Dental Implants Are Truly Life-Changing

tooth implants Kelowna

Patients who are thinking about a dental implant from Love Your Smile in Kelowna often ask how long they last. An implant is a significant investment, after all. Do they really last a lifetime, like people say? The answer is yes, but an explanation is in order.

A dental implant is not a replacement tooth, but the titanium post that is inserted into the jaw. Titanium is well-suited for implants, and cases of rejection by the body are rare. A big factor in how long the implant lasts comes down to how well you take care of it.

Dental implants are life-changing! With regular checkups and proper care at home, a dental implant can last a lifetime. When you get your implant we will have specific instructions for daily care. For most patients, we recommend brushing and flossing twice a day.

Dental implants like those from Love Your Smile in Kelowna are the tooth replacement option of choice. People from Mission, V1Y 8B7, and V1W 3C6 also come to our office for complete general dentistry. Please schedule an appointment with us today!

7 Ways To Fix A Chipped Tooth

fix broken tooth Kelowna

In a perfect world, each of your teeth would stay healthy, strong, and brilliantly white throughout your life. Unfortunately, most of us will need to restore a tooth at some point. At Love Your Smile in Kelowna we can help.

A tooth can be compromised by decay, enamel erosion, a chip or crack, gum disease, or injury. Sometimes old restorations break and need to be replaced or root canals performed decades ago develop an abscess.

Here are seven different options for repairing a damaged tooth:

  1. Dental Bonding. Bonding is used to fix minor cosmetic problems like small chips, cracks, discoloration, and spaces between teeth. A composite resin is applied and shaped as necessary.
  2. Porcelain Veneers. Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin shells that are permanently attached to the front of natural teeth. They can cover chips, cracks, and gaps, or the alignment of a tooth.
  3. Fillings. Modern white fillings are strong and inconspicuous. Patients love them because they blend in so well with natural tooth color. People concerned about the safety of metal fillings often replace those with non-metal white fillings.
  4. Inlays and Onlays. Inlays are applied to the center of a tooth’s biting surface of a tooth (not to a cusp or point). An onlay restores one or more cusps of a tooth.
  5. Crowns. A crown replaces the entire visible portion of the tooth, restoring appearance, strength, and function. A crown is often necessary for a tooth that has had a root canal, with severe decay, or as the replacement tooth in a dental bridge.
  6. Soft Tissue Grafts. Gum recession puts teeth and underlying bone at risk. Soft tissue grafting can cover the exposed root of a tooth to prevent further damage. Gum surgery is also done for cosmetic reasons, such as reshaping a gumline.
  7. Dental Implants. Implants are titanium posts that are inserted into the jaw. Once they fuse with the bone implants can support one or more artificial teeth.

At Love Your Smile in Kelowna we offer complete restorative dentistry. People from Mission, V1Y 8B7, and V1W 3C6 also come to us for general dentistry, and much more. Please call our office to find out what we can do for your smile!

Royalty At Love Your Smile

porcelain crown Kelowna

When we crown one of our patients at Love Your Smile in Kelowna, the coronation is a celebration of a stronger smile.

The need for a dental crown is usually apparent. Crowns (sometimes called caps) restore a decayed or damaged tooth to its original size, shape, and functionality.

Crowns are sometimes extended down to a tooth’s root surface. Most often, though, they replace the top portion of the tooth – also known as the crown, hence the name of the restoration.

Dental crowns are custom-made for each tooth. Once a crown is cemented permanently into place, they strengthen what was a weakened tooth. They prevent cracked teeth from cracking any further and provide support to teeth that have large, existing fillings.

Dental crowns from Love Your Smile in Kelowna are an excellent solution for damaged teeth. We have placed them in patients from Mission, V1Y 8B7, and V1W 3C6, who also come to our practice for dental implants and much more. Call our officce to schedule a checkup today!

3-Tooth Solution For A 1-Tooth Problem?

Mission cosmetic dental and tooth implantsIf you have a missing tooth and want to restore that gap in your smile, it is essential to examine the differences between a dental bridge and a permanent dental implant, two common restorative dentistry procedures available at Love Your Smile in Kelowna.

Dental bridges have replaced teeth for generations. However, they have some drawbacks:

  • They are a 3-tooth solution to a 1-tooth problem. By that we mean that with a bridge, the adjacent teeth must be prepped and crowned to hold the replacement (floating) tooth.
  • It is hard to properly clean the small areas under the bridge.
  • A dental bridge does not guard against bone recession at the extraction site.

Why does a dental implant have key improvements over a dental bridge?

  • It is a 1-tooth solution to a 1-tooth problem.
  • It is usually stronger.
  • Will curtail the risk of bone recession because it replaces the tooth root.
  • It is usually easier to keep clean which results in a lower risk of decay.
  • They usually last longer.
  • Dental implants can support a denture or partial denture.

Dental implants are state-of-the-art in tooth replacement at Love Your Smile in Kelowna. Patients from Mission, V1Y 8B7, and V1W 3C6 come here for implants, bridges, and other restorative dentistry procedures. Call today!

Bridging The Gap

cosmetic dental Kelowna

Do you have a missing tooth that is detracting from your otherwise pleasant smile? At Love Your Smile in Kelowna we can fill the gap with a dental bridge, and help you get back your sensational smile!

A dental bridge could be the perfect answer for your missing tooth. A bridge not only restores your smile: it can help you chew and speak properly.

Traditional bridges are strong enough to replace a missing molar. In order to  get one, you need to have natural teeth on each side of the gap left by the missing tooth. These teeth are prepared by removing their  enamel so there is enough room for the crowns that are cemented on top of them. These two crowns support the artificial tooth.

A traditional dental bridge is just one of the tooth replacement options available at Love Your Smile in Kelowna. People from Mission, V1Y 8B7, and V1W 3C6 also come to our practice for clear braces from Invisalign, and much more. Call for an appointment today!

What If My Dental Crown Cracks, Comes Loose, or Comes Off?

what to do if dental crown comes off Kelowna

Dental crowns are restorations that are cemented over a tooth that has been repaired, and we place a lot of them at Love Your Smile in Kelowna.

While the cement is strong and reliable, crowns have been known to come off. It may have loosened or come off while brushing or flossing, or eating something sticky.  Here is what to do if your crown comes off.

There are three steps:

  1. First things first: find your crown if it has come off entirely. If you can’t find it, don’t worry. We can make a replacement.
  2. Next, give us a call. Even if we didn’t do the original we can reattach it.
  3. If your crown comes off after business hours, use denture adhesive to get it back in place temporarily. Do not use ordinary glue! You can find denture adhesive at a drugstore.

At Love Your Smile in Kelowna we place a lot of dental crowns, and with great success. People from Mission, V1Y 8B7, and V1W 3C6 come to our office for our complete restorative dentistry services, and much more. Schedule an appointment today!
