Your Unique Smile, Only Better!

Kelowna Extreme Smile Makeover

If you are unhappy with your smile, you don’t have to live with it. With dental aesthetics from Love Your Smile in Kelowna, we can make positive changes to your smile.

When we design a smile, we carefully analyze the macroesthetics (larger facial characteristics and relationships between bone structure, tooth size, and shape) and microesthetics (more delicate features such as tooth shade and degree of translucency). There is no one-size-fits-all treatment. Each smile design is as unique as you are.

Whether you have chipped teeth, yellow enamel, a broken dental bridge, or even missing teeth, there are procedures to fix your issues. You can have a smile that you will be proud to show off.

A smile makeover at Love Your Smile typically involves two or more procedures. These may include porcelain veneers, tooth implants, crown lengthening, dental bonding, and teeth bleaching.

At Love Your Smile in Kelowna, even one dental aesthetics procedure can make a big difference. We also provide general dentistry. Call us to schedule an appointment today.

Natural Appearance: Porcelain Veneers

Is your smile beginning to look a little dull? Has its luster faded over the years? Maybe you’ve got a chipped tooth, or maybe a couple. You don’t have to live with these imperfections if you don’t want to. At Love Your Smile in Kelowna, porcelain veneers can mask these and other dental flaws, leaving you with a magnificent smile.

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of medical-grade ceramic or composite resin. We custom fit veneers to go over the front part of your teeth, giving you an attractive, completely natural appearance. You can use veneers to fix stained or chipped teeth, slightly crooked teeth, or abnormally spaced teeth.

Veneers are one of the most popular dental aesthetics procedures. They are very strong, look completely natural, and are made to match the color and shape of your teeth.

One caveat: a thin layer of enamel must be removed from the front of each tooth being covered with a veneer, in order for them to properly adhere. Once they’re cemented in place, they are permanent. But once they are in place, you’ll have the best-looking teeth of anyone you know.

To find out more about porcelain veneers, schedule a consultation with Love Your Smile in Kelowna. We have many other dental aesthetics options. Make an appointment today.

How Bright Can You Shine?

Affordable Kelowna Cosmetic Dentistry

Do you want brighter, whiter teeth? Most people notice their teeth dull as the years go by. But foods, drinks, and even mouthwashes can stain teeth at any age. At Love Your Smile in Kelowna, we can do something about that with dental aesthetics.

Or can you do it on your own? Over the counter products like whitening strips or toothpaste may slightly lighten stains, but for a truly dazzling smile, it takes professional-grade materials.

If you have dental veneers, bonding, or bridges, teeth whitening bleach will not impact the stains and your whitened natural teeth may make your dental work look even duller in comparison. At Love Your Smile we can advise you about new dental work, including veneers or bondings, if these have discolored with age.

Brushing after meals can help prevent staining. But immediately after consuming acidic foods or drinks, just rinse your mouth with water. Brushing before the acids are neutralized or washed away can break down enamel.

In-office teeth whitening takes about an hour and bleaches teeth to a whiter-than-ever brilliance. Professional take-home whitening kits are also available and can produce fantastic results over time.

For more information about teeth whitening, contact Love Your Smile in Kelowna. We also offer general dentistry.

Crown Or Veneer?

cosmetic dentistry Kelowna

Love Your Smile in Kelowna offers multiple dental aesthetics procedures for creating remarkable smiles. Two of the most popular are dental crowns and porcelain veneers.

Many patients don’t understand the difference between the two. Generally, a crown strengthens a compromised tooth while a veneer is used mainly for cosmetic improvements.

A dental crown covers the entire visible part of the tooth. A veneer is an ultra-thin layer for the front of a tooth. Ceramic laminate is used to create durable veneers. Crowns can be made of all porcelain (ceramic), porcelain fused to metal, or gold.

Crowns and veneers are both affixed to the tooth with a special adhesive. Both are durable and can last many years if properly cared for, though they are not stronger than natural enamel. Veneers come in two types: traditional, which require the removal of a thin layer of the patient’s tooth enamel, and prepless, which don’t.

Both of these procedures improve the tooth aesthetically, but dental crowns are often a better solution for a tooth that has been compromised by decay, damage, or a root canal. Veneers can fix the shape of a tooth, repair a minor crack, cover stains, or straighten the appearance of teeth that are slightly misaligned.

Crowns and veneers are among the dental aesthetics procedures available from Love Your Smile in Kelowna. Schedule a consultation with us today.

Teeth: What Have They Done For You Lately?

Kelowna Cosmetic Dentistry

This post from Love Your Smile in Kelowna goes to the heart of what dentistry is all about: the function of healthy teeth.

The shape of each of your teeth gives a clue to what it does. The incisors, or your front teeth, are sharp. They need to be because their job is to cut food and their curvature helps move food inside the mouth.

Behind the incisors, you find the canine teeth. Their roots go far into the jaw bone because they are designed to hold onto food and tear through it.

Premolars, found just behind the canines, are flat on the surface. This allows them to crush your food as you chew. And, finally, in the very back are the molars. They are large and have nice, flat chewing surfaces that help them to grind food down into smaller, more digestible pieces.

Now that you know a little more about your teeth, we hope you are motivated to take great care of them. At Love Your Smile in Kelowna, we offer comprehensive dental services including general and dental aesthetics. Schedule an appointment with us today.

Calming Root Canal Fears

British Columbia Dentist Calms Root Canal FearsA dentist’s office is sometimes seen as a painful place. At Love Your Smile in Kelowna, we try to discourage that image with a caring staff. Even so, hearing they need a root canal can strike fear in the most courageous of our patients.

Root canals, known formally as endodontic therapy, still carry a strong association with pain. It doesn’t need to be that way. Root canals are performed on infected teeth, which can cause a great deal of pain. The root canal doesn’t cause pain, it relieves it.

When a tooth becomes badly infected or decayed, we clean the inside of the tooth by removing the bacteria, soft tissue (called pulp), decayed nerve tissue, and any debris that may be causing the tooth infection from the inside of the tooth. We then seal the tooth to prevent further decay, and finish by applying a crown or filling.

The process can be completed, typically, in just a few visits. In many cases, a root canal is a better option than removing the infected tooth since it allows you to keep your natural tooth.

Though root canals can be intimidating or scary, educating yourself and talking to the team at Love Your Smile in Kelowna can relieve much of your anxiety. We can provide sedation dentistry to get you through a root canal or other procedure. Call us today to schedule your next checkup.

Six 10-Second Healthy Tooth Helps

Dentist in Kelowna BC

It doesn’t have to take a lot of time to improve your oral hygiene. In fact, the dentist at Love Your Smile in Kelowna reminds you that you can form a new habit to benefit your oral health in 10 seconds.

Here are six ways to add important dental care to each day, in 60 seconds or less.

Find a better place for your toothbrush.
Look around. In 10 seconds you can probably find 5 places to set your toothbrush that will permit air drying and can curb the growth of microorganisms that a closed, moist environment would encourage.

Leave the floss on the counter.
If you want to build consistency, you need reminders. Deliberately setting out the floss will give you more commitment to use it. And if you see it, you’ll remember that commitment.

Swish.
If you’re in 20 seconds already, might as well grab the fluoride rinse. You can swish away bits of food and freshen your breath at the same time. 10 seconds is the minimum but 20 is twice as good.

Smile in the mirror.
Check out those chompers. Examine for 10 full seconds. Examine gums for bleeding or tenderness, missed fragments of food, staining, or other concerns.

Have a water chaser with dark beverages.
Rinse your mouth with a sip of water when drinking cola, tea, or coffee throughout the day. A mere 10 seconds that will curb discoloration.

Call Love Your Smile.
A short conversation and you can secure yourself a consultation with us. During your appointment, we will examine your teeth for far more than 10 seconds and help keep your smile healthy and beautiful.

At Love Your Smile Dentistry in Kelowna, we can answer questions about dental aesthetics and general dentistry, and all the other services we offer. Make an appointment today.

Healthy Lifestyles For Healthy Lifesmiles

Kelowna dentist teeth whitening

Dental health and a beautiful smile depend on much more than simply brushing regularly. In today’s post from Love Your Smile in Kelowna, we present a quick refresher course on general dentistry, and the lifestyle practices that affect oral health.

You are probably familiar with most of these recommendations, but it is helpful to get a reminder once in a while. We encourage all of our patients to maintain a lifestyle that promotes dental health as well as overall physical health. After all, the two are inseparable.

DO:

Eat a nutritious diet.
Eat calcium-rich dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt to neutralize acids that attack enamel.
Brush gently but meticulously at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
Make sure you clean thoroughly between teeth with dental floss or interdental cleaners such as flossing picks.
If you have children, speak with your Kelowna dentist about water fluoridation. If your municipal water supply is not fluoridated, you may want to give your children fluoride supplements.
Get your teeth professionally cleaned twice a year.
Have a dental examination twice yearly with your Kelowna dentist.

DON’T:

Eat a sugar frequently. Sugar triggers the production of harmful cavity-causing acids that weaken enamel.
Snack throughout the day. This speeds up plaque production and subjects the teeth to constant bombardment with acids.
Chew on ice.
Use your teeth as tools. Ever.
Drink energy drinks.
Get oral piercings.
Ignore tooth pain or sensitivity.

If you have oral pain or haven’t visited a dentist in a while, call Love Your Smile in Kelowna. We provide general dentistry and dental aesthetics. Make an appointment with us today!

How Long Will A Dental Crown Last?

cost of dental crowns Kelowna

At Love Your Smile in Kelowna we use dental crowns (sometimes called caps) in many restorative treatments. A crown adds strength to a tooth that has a large filling or has been injured, a crown can correct bite misalignments, and a crown is usually necessary after a root canal. In a dental implant procedure, attaching the crown to the abutment is the final step.

Crowns are also used extensively for purely cosmetic problems: yellow teeth, stained teeth, too-small teeth, and teeth that are misshapen.

Dental crowns are fabricated from a variety of materials that vary in appearance and strength:

1. All ceramic (porcelain-based)
2. Porcelain fused to metal
3. Gold alloys
4. Base metal alloys

When many Kelowna dentists provide a crown restoration, they use a process that requires two office visits. On the first visit, the dentist will prepare the tooth and take an impression for the dental lab. Then, the dentist will make a temporary crown for the patient to use until the permanent crown is ready. Some dentists have special technology that allows them to fabricate and place crowns in one visit.

How Long Do Dental Crowns Last? Dental crowns can last for many years, but are not designed to last indefinitely. Even with proper care, dental patients should not expect crowns to be trouble-free for decades. There is encouraging evidence, however, that points to a high success rate: a 2009 study found that more than 90% of dental crowns will not require treatment within five years of placement. The study also found that 50% to 80% last from 15 to 20 years.

At Love Your Smile in Kelowna, we provide quality restorative dentistry and dental aesthetics. Schedule an appointment with us today.
